A Prayer to Hecate

Recently, I bought a really nice little set of (lava stone!) prayer beads from Hearthfire Handworks over on Etsy. They were marketed as for Hades, but I wanted them for Hecate, instead. Also, just days before I saw them (thanks to Kristen’s want for the Poseidon prayer beads), I had the strangest thought race through my mind while watching something on one of the Nature channels: “I WANT A PIECE OF LAVA!” No idea where that came from, and it was not normal for me. Apparently, something bigger was at work here. The beads came with a suggested prayer for use with them, made to match the 12-point bead string. Actually, mine came with two prayers, because I asked for the one for Hecate to be included, as opposed to the one for Hades since I wanted these for Her. The prayers are vey similar, with several lines matching verbatim, but I wasn’t taken with them. They felt flat to me, and didn’t resonate for me at all. So I decided to re-write them into something that I liked better. Here’s what I came up with for Hecate (Hekate).

A Prayer for Hecate

Night-wandering Hecate, Mistress of the Crossroads,
I pray to you

Torch-bearing Goddess of Night,
I implore you, Light my way.
Perseis, child of Titans:
I implore you, Light my way.
Honored by Zeus above all others,
I implore you, Light my way.
Lady of the Three Realms,
I implore you, Light my way.
Three-formed goddess, orb of night,
I implore you, Light my way.
Holder of the keys to all realms:
I implore you, Light my way.
Worker from afar, protector of mankind,
I implore you, Light my way.
Chthonic guide, companion of change,
I implore you, Light my way.
Liminal Goddess, patron of sorcery:
I implore you, Light my way.
Mistress of Furies and Shades,
I implore you, Light my way.
Mistress of the dark Abyss
I implore you, Light my way.
Mistress of the night-wandering spirits,
I implore you, Light my way.

Night-wandering Hecate, Mistress of the Crossroads, I pray to you

I like your prayer. It strikes me that lava beads would be perfect for a Pele devotion as well, and they are lovely.

Thank you for stopping by, and for the comments. I agree, the lava beads would definitely work well for Pele, too.

Thank you! It took me a few days to make it fit right, but I’m fairly happy with it.
